THE FOUNDATION OF MEDIA RAPPORT

Cornerstone #2: Skills

Working with the media requires you to be on top of your game with regard to communicating. Too often people believe that how they write and speak are effective, but when you look at how it is being done objectively, it is obviously ineffective. In our work with financial advisors we have learned that very few of them have the necessary skill sets to successfully work with the media. We have found that many people we work with do not have the ability to write or speak in way that is right for working with the media. This leads to missed or failed opportunities with the media.

In the Skills Cornerstone, it is important to master the supports of Wisdom, Writing, Speaking, and Interviewing. Each of these supports is necessary in not only attracting media, but in keeping yourself in front of media as a valuable resource.
